Final year commercial project. Design and document a mixed-use commercial and multi-residential building in Port Melbourne's Fishermans Bend.

'bravo.' Envisaged by the need for attentive design in urban multi-residential projects. The strain on inner-city housing stock from Melbourne's ever-growing population invariably leads to unfolding design challenges. In this project, students were asked to design a multi-residential building for a 1300m2 site in Fishermans Bend for a new wave of residents that intuitively responds to these challenges.

Project Scope

This assessment is about the working drawings and specifications documentation phase for tender.
Students were to finalize and prepare their project as a package to be tendered.

Students were given a brief to design apartments according to the Planning Provisions of Port Melbourne Council and the recast vision for Fishermans Bend. A theoretic two-hectare site at 19 Salmon Street in Port Melbourne, was subdivided between students in lot sizes of approximately 1300m2.

The team of seven students adopted a collaborative work ethic to create a design of a tower on podium format. This program enabled the podium levels to house lettable commercial spaces and vehicle parking in keeping with Fishermans Bend's design guidelines.

Project Timeline: 14 Weeks intensive. In-class tutorials limited to 1 x weekly.
